Christmas Day Devotional
Humility in the Manger
Scripture: “The Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.” — Matthew 20:28
Reflection
On Christmas morning, we celebrate the astonishing truth that the King of kings entered the world not in a palace, but in a stable. The eternal Son of God chose the humility of a manger, showing us that true greatness is found in service, not status. His love was expressed not through grandeur, but through simplicity—meeting us in our humanity, in our need, in our weakness.
Christmas teaches us that love stoops low. It bends down to wash feet, to carry burdens, to meet needs without expecting anything in return. The manger points us to the cross, where Jesus gave His life in the ultimate act of service. Today, as we unwrap gifts and share meals, we are reminded that the greatest gift is Christ Himself—who came not to be served, but to serve. His birth calls us to reflect His heart: to serve others with humility, to give generously, and to love sacrificially.
This day is not only about celebration, but about imitation. As Christ served us, we are called to serve others. In small acts of kindness, in words of encouragement, in forgiveness offered freely, His love shines through us. Christmas Day is a reminder that the glory of God is revealed in humility, and His kingdom advances through love expressed in service.
Prayers
