United in Grief, Rooted in Hope

When one part of the body suffers, we all draw near—together in prayer, together in love.

Bible Verse

Romans 12:15 (NIV)

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn.”

Reflection

In moments of celebration, we gather with joy. But in times of tragedy, we are called to gather with compassion. The devastating floods in Texas have left a deep wound in the heart of our nation—over 100 lives lost, including 27 children and counselors from Camp Mystic, swept away in a matter of minutes A.

Romans 12:15 is not just a suggestion—it’s a command to live in deep spiritual unity. When one part of the body suffers, we all suffer. We don’t look away. We lean in. We mourn with those who mourn. We cry out to God on behalf of families who have lost everything. And we stand together, not just in grief, but in hope—because we know the God who binds up the brokenhearted and brings beauty from ashes.

Application

1. Pause and Pray – Take a moment today to pray by name for the families in Kerr County, for the rescue teams, and for the children still missing.

2. Give if You Can – Find a trusted organization supporting flood relief and give generously. Even a small act of love can bring light to someone’s darkest hour.

3. Share the Burden – Post a prayer, a verse, or a message of hope on social media. Let the grieving know they are not alone.

4. Gather and Intercede – Invite your church, small group, or family to pray together this week for Texas. Unity in prayer releases power.

Prayer

Father, we come before You with heavy hearts. We lift up the families in Texas who are grieving unimaginable loss. Wrap them in Your comfort. Be near to the brokenhearted. We mourn with them, and we ask You to bring peace, provision, and healing. Unite us as one body—across states, across churches, across differences—to be Your hands and feet in this time of sorrow. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
